The liberal SuperPAC American Bridge is launching its first general election ad against expected Republican gubernatorial nominee Adam Laxalt, criticizing him over what the group describes as him pressuring a gaming regulator on behalf of a major campaign donor, Las Vegas Sands casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.

The group, which has already run ads slamming Laxalt for his endorsement by embattled Storey County Sheriff Gerald Antinoro, says it’s launching Facebook video ads in Reno and Las Vegas on Wednesday targeted at swing voters.

Then-Gaming Control Board chief A.G. Burnett covertly recorded a conversation between himself and Laxalt in March 2016 over concerns that the attorney general’s request for the state to intervene in a private lawsuit involving the Las Vegas Sands were ethically questionable. Upon consulting with Gov. Brian Sandoval’s general counsel, Burnett turned the tape over to the FBI, which determined that no criminal action had taken place.

Laxalt argued that his actions were absolutely routine and done on behalf of the state and not the Las Vegas Sands.

The American Bridge ads prominently feature video of Laxalt’s primary opponent, Treasurer Dan Schwartz, including him saying, “If you want Governor Adelson, vote for Laxalt.” Schwartz, however, told The Nevada Independent that he would support the Republican nominee in the governor’s race.
