The National Republican Congressional Committee has named businessman Danny Tarkanian and former Congressman Cresent Hardy as two of the top 11 candidates they believe have a significant shot at winning competitive congressional seats nationwide.

The NRCC has picked Tarkanian in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District and Hardy in the 4th Congressional District to join the final phase of its “Young Guns” program, meaning they will receive additional access to key donors, more help from operatives and extra on the ground support. Other candidates across the nation have been named to two lower levels of the “Young Guns” program — “on the radar’ and “contenders” — but the “young gun” designation signals where the Republicans plan to focus the bulk of their attention this cycle.

Tarkanian, who is taking his second shot at running in the 3rd District after losing to Rep. Jacky Rosen last year, will face education advocate and philanthropist Susie Lee in this swingy, suburban Las Vegas district that covers Summerlin, Henderson and the southwest. Rosen is vacating her seat to challenge Republican U.S. Sen. Dean Heller.

Hardy is making a comeback bid after losing his re-election bid in 2016 to Rep. Ruben Kihuen, who decided not to run for re-election after a series of allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced against him late last year. Hardy will face former Rep. Steven Horsford, whom he ousted during the red wave election of 2014.

“I am proud to welcome each candidate to the Young Guns program to ensure they have the resources they need to win, and I look forward to seeing them on the trail this summer and fall,” said House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who founded the “Young Guns” program during the 2008 cycle with Speaker Paul Ryan and then-Rep. Eric Cantor, in a statement.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has named both Lee and Horsford to its “Red to Blue” program, which similarly provides fundraising and operational support to Democratic candidates.
