As a non-profit newsroom, we take donations from anyone who wants to support reliable, nonpartisan, deeply reported journalism. Sometimes the people or companies we report on will have previously donated to The Indy. We think that’s information you have a right to know. That’s why we disclose all of our donors and members on this page, as well as in the news stories in which they are mentioned.
There are four ways to financially support our work: donate an item for auction, mail a check, make a one-time credit card donation, or become a Sustaining Member through an automatic monthly or automatic yearly donation.
Donate an item to be auctioned off to benefit The Indy
We’re happy to announce that you can now easily donate items to be publicly auctioned with proceeds benefiting The Nevada Independent.
Make a One-Time Donation
Any donation of $5,000 or more— whether cumulative or given all at once — received between November 2016 and December 31, 2017, established the giver as a Founding Member of The Nevada Independent. We are deeply grateful to our Founders.
Monthly Sustaining Memberships
Our membership levels are:
WiFi Club ($5/month)
Cafecito Club ($10/month)
Legal Eagle Club ($20/month)
Battle Born Club ($50/month)
Fourth Estate Club ($100/month)
Editor’s Circle ($200/month)
$5.00 per month or an annual donation of $60
We operate virtually so we don’t pay rent for office space. We do, however, need a fast host server and reliable cell phone and data service for our team. Your donation will help support our online model. Once we’ve covered our phone and internet bill, your donation will help pay for team travel expenses. (We promise not to stay at the Four Seasons. Hello, Holiday Inn!)
Become a WiFi Club Memberor
$10.00 per month or an annual donation of $120
We are the only government and political news site in Nevada with a full-time Spanish editor, a Spanish podcast, live Facebook coverage in Spanish, and daily English and Spanish content. Your donation will help support our Spanish team as well as our coffee budget (which all hard-working reporters and editors need).
Become a Cafecito Club Memberor
Legal Eagle Club
$20.00 per month or an annual donation of $240
We need to legally protect our reporters and our Board, as well as file Freedom of Information Act requests so we can get to the bottom of things and produce investigative reports. Your donation will help pay for insurance, legal counsel, and per-page charges for needed information. And maybe some Rolaids.
Become a Legal Eagle Club Member
Battle Born Club
$50.00 per month or an annual donation of $600
Our biggest budget item by far is the salaries and health care benefits for our most valuable resource: our reporters and editors. Your donation will help us compensate and provide benefits for our core team.
Become a Battle Born Club Member
Fourth Estate Club
$100.00 per month or a one-time donation of $1,200
In 1841, Thomas Carlyle used the term “Fourth Estate” to describe the reporters’ gallery in the English Parliament. He said it was “more important” than the other three estates represented (the House of Commons, the House of Lords, and the monarchy). The role of the press in a representative democracy is twofold: it informs the citizenry and serves as a feedback loop between the government and voters.
The Fourth Estate Club is for those who want to support independent news for members of the Nevada community who read our site but cannot afford membership. (One Fourth Estate membership is equivalent to 20 readers at our $5.00 per month entry level membership.) Your generous donation will ensure that we can fulfill our mission of providing free content to everyone.
Become a Fourth Estate Member now
$200.00 per month or an annual donation of $2,400 or more
A yearly commitment to this membership level will make a substantial difference to our operating account and support The Nevada Independent now and into the future.
