FAMILY AND EDUCATION:

Marchant was born in Gainesville, FL in 1956. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, he received a degree in criminal justice from Troy State University in Alabama in 1978.

He moved to Las Vegas in 2005 and is semi-retired. His recreational activities include “dirt bike racing” according to his page on the Legislature’s website.

CAREER:

According to his campaign website, Marchant started working after college as a clerk in his father’s convenience store business in 1978, working his way up the ladder and eventually into a management position. He left in 1984 to start his own computer software business, and then in 1994 starting one of the first Internet Service Provider companies. Marchant testified against efforts to tax internet access in Florida, and was appointed by former Gov. Jeb Bush to serve on a board dealing with online regulations and law.

Marchant also sought to challenge Assembly Speaker John Hambrick in a recall election during the 2015 legislative session.
