First came the candidate filing period in March. Then came the primary election in June.
Now, more than seven months later, candidates who cleared the primary hurdle are gearing up for the granddaddy of campaign season: the general election on Tuesday.
Nevada's contests have garnered quite a bit of national attention, given the role the Silver State could play in determining control of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives. Democratic Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto is waging a re-election bid in the highly competitive race against Republican Adam Laxalt, the state's former attorney general.
The governor's mansion is also up for grabs this election cycle. Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak is vying for his second term, but he's facing a challenge from Republican Joe Lombardo, the current sheriff of populous Clark County.
This year's lengthy ballot also includes races for Nevada's congressional districts as well as statewide and local elected offices, legislative seats, judicial positions and three ballot questions.
Early voting ran from Oct. 22 through Friday. The final march toward the midterm election has brought the usual pomp and circumstance to Nevada: lots of get-out-the-vote rallies, hand shakes, high-profile politician visits, press conferences and candidate trips to the polls.
What comes next is anyone’s guess, especially as polling indicates competitive matchups in the state’s gubernatorial and Senate races.
Until then, here’s a glimpse at the run-up to Election Day in Southern Nevada, as captured by The Nevada Independent’s photographer Jeff Scheid:
