After a lengthy wait and years of work, Nevada lawmakers have unveiled a plan to revamp the state’s uber-complicated, half-century-old K-12 education funding formula.

It’s something long advocated by Educate Nevada Now, a nonpartisan education policy organization powered by the Rogers Foundation that counts “funding reform” as one of its top priorities.

Reporter Michelle Rindels sits down with ENN’s education funding experts for a conversation about why the funding formula overhaul was necessary in the first place, what looks good and what’s missing from the bill that just dropped, as lawmakers gear up for the bill’s first hearing next week.

Guests this week are three members of ENN’s staff: lawyer Amanda Morgan; accountant Michaela Tonking, who worked for the consultant firm that made recommendations in 2018 about how to redo the formula; and spokeswoman Michelle Booth, who previously worked for the Clark County School District.
