Lawmakers on Thursday will hear about plans to build new academic buildings on Nevada college campuses.

They’ll also hold a committee vote on whether to join the National Popular Vote Compact and review an audit on how the Department of Taxation has been regulating marijuana.

Here’s what to watch for on Thursday at the Legislature:

NSHE building, wildfire suppression budgets

Members of a joint budget subcommittee will review budgets for several capital improvement projects, including plans for new academic buildings at Nevada State College and the College of Southern Nevada.

A separate subcommittee will explore the wildfire suppression budgets of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

Both subcommittees meet at 8 a.m.

AB215: Rules on document preparers and enrolled agents

Lawmakers on the Assembly Government Affairs Committee will hear AB215, a bill that aims to correct the unintended consequence of a 2017 bill putting more regulations on document preparers. The bill revises the law to exempt “enrolled agents” who are authorized to practice before the Internal Revenue Service.

The committee meets at 8:30 a.m.

Presentations on energy and SB154: Renewable natural gas

Members of the Assembly Growth and Infrastructure Committee will hear presentations from the Governor’s Office of Energy, the Public Utilities Commission and the attorney general’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.

They’ll also hear SB154, which allows utility companies to participate in “renewable natural gas activities” and recover all costs of doing so.

The committee meets at 1:30 p.m.

AB186 & ACR4: National Popular Vote, wildfire study

The Assembly Legislative Operations and Elections Committee will be voting on AB186, which would add Nevada to the National Popular Vote Compact when choosing a president. They will also vote on AC4, which calls for an interim study on wildfires.

The committee meets at 4 p.m.

Audit on marijuana regulation and enforcement

Legislative auditors will present to the Legislative Commission’s Audit Subcommittee a report on marijuana regulation and enforcement within the Department of Taxation. It is the only item on the subcommittee’s agenda.

The subcommittee will meet at 4:30 p.m.
