Representative In Congress, District 1
Why you should care
Once a deeply Democratic district in the heart of Las Vegas, CD1 is now considered a battleground. Incumbent Dina Titus (D-NV) is the most liberal member of the congressional delegation and has recently gotten attention for her efforts to undo a tax change that could force gamblers to pay the government more, even when they lose. But her opponent, state Sen. Carrie Buck (R-Henderson), is an educator and charter school leader who has given Washington Republicans hope of finally flipping the seat. She outraised Titus two quarters in a row and is endorsed by President Donald Trump.

IncumbentElected to the seat in 2012, Titus’ previous political experience includes one term representing Congressional District 3 and two decades in the state Senate. Raised in Georgia, she is a retired professor of political science at UNLV.

Representative In Congress, District 2
Why you should care
For the first time in eight years, Nevada is guaranteed to send a new representative to Congress. After incumbent Mark Amodei announced his surprise retirement from the state’s only solidly Republican district, more than two dozen candidates jumped in the race to replace him. Despite moving to the district just this spring, David Flippo (R), who swapped races after previously aiming for the 4th District seat, won the bitter Republican primary with his MAGA bonafides, a no-holds-barred campaign and a last-minute endorsement from President Donald Trump. Democrats say his victory presents a prime opportunity to flip the Northern Nevada seat that they’ve never won. Their candidate is former Assembly Majority Leader Teresa Benitez-Thompson (D-Reno), who’s running on standing up to Trump and bringing federal funds back to the state.

Teresa Benitez-Thompson
Benitez-Thompson was most recently chief of staff to Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford and previously served as the Assembly Democratic majority leader in 2017 and 2019. She represented Assembly District 27 beginning in 2010, is a licensed clinical social worker who has worked in hospice and adoption and won the Miss Nevada pageant in 2002.
