A bill sought to take election cases out of Carson City courts. What happened?

The First Judicial District Court has only two judges and no public access to online court documents or hearings. Frustration over the lack of transparency on some of the state’s most important cases led Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager (D-Las Vegas) to sponsor AB490, a bill in the 2025 legislative session that would have moved initiative petition disputes to other courts that have electronic access to documents and hearings.

ACLU sues DMV for not releasing records pertaining to ICE

In the Thursday lawsuit, the ACLU said the DMV had failed to turn over correspondence between the agency and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in response to multiple public records requests since February 2025. After sending a formal demand letter through the Nevada Attorney General’s Office, the Nevada DMV turned over heavily redacted and incomplete documents.

Audit: Lax oversight of overtime at Nevada prisons costs state $18M annually

The audit suggested increased enforcement of payroll practices, including training new administrators to oversee payroll practices, as well as bolstering recruitment and retention efforts. The agency said it will work to adopt the recommendations, but similar suggestions from prior studies were never implemented.

Nevada receives a poor grade in supreme court justice transparency report

Nevada received a poor grade in a new report comparing financial disclosure reports of state supreme court chief justices, with authors saying the state’s forms fail to seek information about investments, board positions and other matters that could inform the public about potential conflicts of interest.
