What Is Sponsored Content?
Sponsored content includes material that promotes events, services, products, or organizations — particularly when it contains links to a sponsor’s website or calls to action. In accordance with Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines, all sponsored content will be clearly labeled as “Sponsored,” along with the sponsor’s name.
Editorial Independence
We maintain a strict separation between advertising and editorial operations:
- Sponsored content is created or commissioned by the advertiser, not our newsroom. It should provide relevant information and context that is useful and engaging for readers.
- All sponsored content is clearly labeled
- The views expressed do not reflect those of The Nevada Independent
- Sponsors have no influence over editorial decisions or coverage
Our team may edit submissions for clarity, grammar and adherence to Associated Press or our internal style guidelines. We reserve the right to reject any content that undermines the integrity of its brand.
Note: Political endorsements are not permitted in sponsored content.
Content Requirements
To ensure quality and consistency, all submissions must meet the following criteria:
- Length: 500–1,000 words
- Originality: Content must be original, accurate and not misleading
- Tone: Should align with the professional, factual and informative style of The Nevada Independent’s news articles. Should not primarily be the argumentative or persuasive tone of an opinion piece. Sponsors are responsible for ensuring that their content is accurate and complies with all applicable laws and regulations. The Nevada Independent reserves the right to reject or remove any paid content that is false, libelous, illegal, misleading, etc. at its discretion. Indy staff may edit the material for style, grammar and conformance with the publication’s norms, with final approval from the advertiser.
- Attribution: All data, quotes and third-party material should be properly cited, and where possible, hyperlinked to an original source. Excessive or spam links are not allowed.
- Images: Advertisers must secure permission from copyright holders to use images. May not be altered or manipulated in a misleading way.
