On the campaign trail and since being elected governor, Steve Sisolak has strived to highlight parallels and similarities between himself and popular former Gov. Brian Sandoval.

And ever since his election in November, Sisolak has kept a sizable number of Sandoval’s appointees to executive branch agencies in place.

At least seven of the 20 publicly announced appointments made by Sisolak since December are holdovers from Sandoval’s eight years as governor, including leaders of major state government executive branch agencies including the Department of Administration and the Department of Health and Human Services.

The appointments include both executive branch agencies and appointments required of the governor, who under state law is given wide latitude to appoint members to dozens of agencies, boards, regulatory agencies, commissions and certain vacancies. (A list of Sandoval’s appointments between 2011 and 2013 runs for 36 pages, and the section of state law referencing various required gubernatorial appointments references 230 separate entities).

Sisolak still needs to make decisions on leadership for a handful of major state agencies, including the Department of Transportation, Department of Education, state Superintendent and the Governor’s Office of Economic Development.

He also appointed Michael Naft, a former aide to Democratic Rep. Dina Titus, to his vacated seat on the Clark County Commission, and former MGM Resorts attorney Sandra Douglass Morgan as chair of the Gaming Control Board, replacing Sandoval-appointed Chairwoman Becky Harris.

Here’s a full list of all appointments announced by Sisolak so far:
