FACT BRIEF

Are adult immunization rates in Nevada lower than the national average?

By Tabitha Mueller on 02/19/2025

Yes.

Adult vaccination rates in Nevada are below the national average, and at least one analysis ranks the state last in the country for vaccination rates among adults and the elderly.

A 2025 state report indicates that Nevada consistently is below the national average for adult vaccination rates, including for the flu, COVID-19, pneumococcal disease (which can cause pneumonia, meningitis and sinusitis) and shingles.

According to the immunization database Nevada WebIZ, only 7.3 percent of Nevadans received a COVID-19 booster dose in 2024. Nationally, about 22.5 percent of adults received the 2023-2024 updated COVID-19 vaccine.

More than 65 percent of those 65 and older in Nevada got a pneumococcal vaccine in 2023, while nationally, the rate was more than 70 percent.

The report noted a challenge has been the need to discontinue funding Nevada’s immunization coalition, which helped coordinate immunization efforts, including promoting vaccine confidence and working with providers.
