Scales of justice.

I want to update you on our ambitious and unprecedented judicial race project. As I told you a month ago, The Indy is trying to give voters the most information ever put forth about candidates for the judiciary — races that are too often glossed over or ignored.

I am thrilled to report that about 50 judges and candidates have replied to our extensive questionnaires about their qualifications to serve. That’s about a 60 percent return rate.

When we publish the responses, we will also publish the names of those who declined to answer. Make of that what you will, but I credit the four dozen or so candidates who recognized the importance of providing valuable information to voters.

Ballots have already gone out in most counties and are scheduled to be mailed to voters this week in Clark County. I hope you will resist the temptation to return yours until we have had a chance to publish our findings. My hope is that this will occur before the end of the month. (Election Day is Tuesday, June 9.)

As always, feel free to email me with questions at [email protected].
