FACT BRIEF

Is daily room cleaning required at all hotels in Nevada?

By Howard Stutz on 02/28/2025

No.

A requirement that all hotel rooms in Clark and Washoe counties be cleaned daily was implemented in 2020 to address health and safety concerns during the pandemic. Three years later, the mandate was repealed through SB441, a bipartisan measure supported by the resort industry.

Sen. Lori Rogich (R-Las Vegas) plans to introduce legislation in the 2025 session requiring daily room cleaning to address the illicit cannabis market.

Daily room cleaning is mandated as part of the five-year contracts the Culinary Workers Union Local 226 signed with more than 50 Strip and downtown resort operators that expire in 2028.

Resorts not covered by Culinary agreements do not have daily room cleaning mandates but will provide the service upon request. That includes properties operated by Red Rock Resorts, a company spokesman said.

Two of Boyd Gaming’s downtown casinos agreed to Culinary contracts and have daily room cleaning. Other Boyd Southern Nevada properties are not covered under the contract.
