A Legislative police officer raised the flag of the Legislature on Friday, July 31, 2020 during the first day of the 32nd Special Session of the Legislature in Carson City.

The second legislative session of the summer got underway on Friday, with seven bills introduced and several high-interest hearings on election changes and mining taxes.

Lawmakers introduced measures adjusting the tax rate for mining companies and cementing expanded mail-in voting during emergencies, as well as one limiting police use of force. The Nevada Independent is once again in the building reporting on the action. Photographer David Calvert captured scenes from a pro-police demonstration outside the Legislative Building in Carson City before the session began, as well as deliberations in the Assembly and the Senate.
