One hundred years ago, Nov. 11, 1918, was a day of jubilation — marking the end of World War I and a victory for the Allied Powers.

On Sunday, a century after newspaper headlines screamed the good news from Europe, residents across Nevada paid homage to the men and women who have served in the United States military.

Some families visited the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery this weekend, dropping flags and flowers on their loved ones' graves. Others cheered for service members, past and present, during annual Veterans Day parades in Virginia City and Las Vegas.

It was their way of saying "thank you" to the veterans, some of whom stand invisible among us in daily interactions, who have sacrificed for the sake of the country.
