Nevada matters in 2020.

We are an early state in the presidential nominee selection schedule, still considered a swing state despite how blue the Republicans were in 2018. So we thought our readers would like to know which candidates are (and have been) showing their love by coming here to demonstrate they can pronounce the state’s name, be opposed to Yucca Mountain and kiss rings, be they Sheldon Adelson’s or Harry Reid’s.

That’s why we created The Indy’s Presidential Campaign Tracker, courtesy of the technical wizardry of C.J. Keeney and the design brilliance of Peter Vogt. (Reporter Megan Messerly also was invaluable, the glue that held together all the preparation, overseen by the guiding hand of Managing Editor Elizabeth Thompson.)

Here’s what you get:

— An interactive map that shows how many total campaign visits a city has had, exactly where and when candidates visited, and which groups they appeared before.

— A Timeline of Visits going back to when the 2020 White House cycle started — the day after the 2016 election, of course! — that includes info cards, organized by week, showing the candidate visits with details about the events.

— Bar graphs that compare the number of visits and the frequency over time.

We hope this tool proves useful as the campaign unfolds. We expect many dots to fill the map before the caucuses in just under a year and the election in November 2020.

As always, if you have ideas for how to make this better, please let us know at [email protected].
