An update on The Indy
It’s now been four months since I told you about The Indy’s restructuring and two months since my last update.
So where are we now?
Lots of good news to report:
— After some rocky times at the beginning of the year, I continue to feel optimistic about The Indy’s future. Our bank account is once again robust, and our revenue team has done a fantastic job of opening new doors, too. We are not sustainable over the long term yet, but we finally have a bit of a cushion, and I hope we never have to relive what this company endured earlier this year.
— We have hired two news staffers since I last wrote. Justin Stabley has joined the team as our social media producer, and he has already fit right in, posting our content and helping reporters create videos. Isabella Aldrete comes to us via Report for America, and I am very excited to have her on board. She is a bilingual journalist who is going to help us during this election year dig into different demographic groups, especially the Hispanic vote. I am thrilled to have both of them on board. You can see both of their bios on our team page.
— We also recently entered into a content-sharing partnership with the Associated Press that will greatly enhance our ability to bring stories we can’t cover to our pages, along with access to regional pieces and photos. We are honored to be partnering with the venerable wire service.
— We have two events in the works that I am really excited about. First on Sept. 25, we will have our second forum for the Las Vegas mayoral race, as Shelley Berkley and Victoria Seaman have agreed to a 90-minute sitdown with yours truly. It will be at The Fontainebleau and televised by KSNV. Then, on Oct. 17-18, we will have our annual IndyFest conference at Durango Casino and Resort. We are thrilled to have actor/entrepreneur Mark Wahlberg as the headliner to talk about a potential Hollywood East in Las Vegas and his desire for state lawmakers to pass a film tax credit bill. You can see details on our events page.
— Our site continues to be the go-to place for anyone interested in Nevada policy, politics and issues. Like some of those who came before them, our core of reporters features young but hard-working and relentless journalists who will be stars someday on this stage and beyond. It is such a great honor to be working beside them.
As always, I have to thank you, our readers and supporters. Without you, we would not be here. If you haven’t donated to our 501c3 nonprofit yet, and you appreciate what we do, there’s still time.
Oh, one more thing: The Indy family had another new addition since I last updated you. I consider this beautiful newcomer a good omen for the Snyder family and The Indy family, too.
Onward!
Jon Ralston is the CEO and editor of The Indy.
