FACT BRIEF

Are e-bike injuries increasing nationally?

By Kate Reynolds on 11/06/2025

Yes.

Injuries from accidents involving e-bikes are increasing nationwide, according to a 2024 report by researchers at the University of California, San Francisco.

The analysis tracked hospitalizations of e-bike and e-scooter users and found that injuries of e-bike users doubled almost every year from 2017 to 2022. There were nearly 23,500 injuries to e-bike users in 2022.

Injuries of e-scooter users also surged, going from roughly 8,500 injuries in 2017 to nearly 57,000 in 2022.

E-bikes have been involved in multiple traffic collisions in Nevada. While the state does not track statewide data on e-bike fatalities, the City of Las Vegas in 2025 began tracking fatality data among e-bike and e-scooter users.

Three e-bike users and five e-scooter users in Las Vegas have died in traffic accidents this year as of Nov. 2, 2025, according to data from city police.
