FACT BRIEF

Are measles cases increasing in Nevada in 2025?

By Kiara Adams on 10/15/2025

No.

While measles cases have increased nationally from 2024 to 2025, there have been no reported measles cases in Nevada in either year.

Nevada is an exception to a national upward trend in cases. Nationally, there were 285 cases in the first 10 months of 2024 and 1,544 in the first 10 months of 2025. This year, 12% of cases have resulted in hospitalization and three in death.

The CDC reports that vaccination rates have declined in recent years, increasing the risk of contracting measles. There is no single reason for declining vaccination rates but experts say it can be tied to shifting federal guidance and vaccine skepticism.

In 2025, 92% of cases occurred among the unvaccinated or those with unknown vaccination status.

The domestic case count in 2025 is the highest recorded in the 21st century.
