Popularized by Fred R. Barnard in the 1920s, the phrase “a picture is worth a 1,000 words” may very well be an advertising gimmick. But there is also a great deal of truth to those words.
Photographs can convey emotions and tell a story in a way that words cannot. Whether by themselves or as part of a news article, photographs are an essential part of how The Nevada Independent shares what is happening in cities, communities and government officials’ offices throughout the state.
Below you will find some of the photographs that help tell the story of Nevada in 2025, including favorites from photographers David Calvert, Jeff Scheid, Daniel Clark and Nick Stewart.
