Nevada had the fourth-lowest rate of job growth among the states from November 2023 to November 2024, behind South Dakota, Iowa and West Virginia. 

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nevada lost more than 400,000 jobs, but the state rapidly recovered in 2020 and 2021 and surpassed its number of pre-pandemic jobs by January 2022. The number of jobs in Nevada hovered around 1.5 million in 2024, with 0.5 percent job growth year over year in November. 

Gov. Joe Lombardo praised the state’s growing workforce in his 2025 State of the State address, but recognized the unemployment number in Nevada was 5.7 percent, the worst in the nation as of December. He acknowledged “there is still much work to be done.”
