New pro-energy choice ad blasts NV Energy for 'lying' and 'cheating' consumers
Focus: The Energy Choice Initiative
Who’s paying for it: Nevadans for Affordable, Clean Energy Choices, the PAC supporting the ballot question
Size of buy: Part of a $900,000 advertising buy
When it starts: Sept. 26
Where it’s running: Statewide
The gist: The ad sharpens criticisms of NV Energy — the state’s primary utility which is funding opposition to the ballot measure — by accusing them of not only “lying” but “cheating” consumers as well.
It cites several critical articles of the utility, including one that states the utility had over-earned its authorized rate of return by millions of dollars every year, and another that details profits made by the company prior to its sale to Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway in 2012. It also cites a 2012 article on energy regulators criticizing the utility’s pay scale for top executives, including the $900,000 salary and $900,000 bonus for former CEO Michael Yackira.
