An estimated crowd of more than 100,000 fans lined a mile-long stretch of Las Vegas Boulevard Saturday night to celebrate the Vegas Golden Knights’ first-ever Stanley Cup victory.
The parade culminated in front of T-Mobile Arena — the hockey team’s home base — where local officials handed out keys to their cities before the partying Golden Knights players came out with the Cup. The sight of team members drinking Champagne out of the Cup looked a little like Sunday communion.
It was the first Stanley Cup win for the team, established in 2017, and came after the Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers in a 4-1 series (capped off by a 9-3 blowout of the Florida Panthers) on Tuesday.
Some fans at the parade were detained by the police for fighting, and others were overcome by the nearly 100-degree temperatures.
