Tracking the rise and fall of Jon Ponder, the prominent nonprofit founder arrested last week
Perhaps the highlight of Jon Ponder's career came in 2020, when he was publicly pardoned by President Donald Trump for his prior criminal convictions; with the president calling the nonprofit founder a "beautiful testament to the power of redemption."
Six years later, Ponder was arrested and charged with 20 criminal counts, including gross lewdness, unauthorized contact with prisoners and attempted sexual coercion. It marked a stunning fall from grace for the nonprofit founder accustomed to rubbing elbows with some of Nevada's most powerful political and law enforcement leaders.
After leaving prison in 2009, Ponder said he set out to transform his life and the lives of others by launching Hope for Prisoners, a nonprofit dedicated to helping prisoners adjust to life after their incarceration ends.
Hope for Prisoners attracted broad community support, forging partnerships with myriad law enforcement and criminal justice agencies. Former board members include Clark County Sheriff Kevin McMahill and Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson.
His profile on the rise after his pardon, Ponder became a sought-after speaker locally and nationally as the face and CEO of Hope for Prisoners.
