Trump nominates Nevada State College official to Department of Energy post
President Donald Trump announced Friday that he plans to nominate Nevada State College official James Campos to be the director of the Office of Minority Economic Impact in the Department of Energy.
Campos could not be immediately reached for comment.
The office’s official title has changed to the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity, according the the DOE’s website.
If confirmed by the Senate, as director, Campos will be tasked with helping implement legislation and executive orders with an eye towards their effect on minorities and minority businesses, as well as helping to ensure that minorities are afforded an opportunity to fully participate in DOE’s energy programs.
He would oversee four lower offices as economic impact diversity director, including Minority Business and Economic Development, Minority Education and Community Development, the Office of Civil Rights and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
Campos currently serves as the senior advisor on economic development & government relations to Nevada State College President Bart Patterson and as a state regulator on the Nevada Taxicab Commission, according to a White House release.
Prior to his work with Nevada State College, Campos served as the director of renewable energy initiatives & government relations for the College of Southern Nevada and was formerly the state-wide commissioner of the Nevada Consumer Affairs Division where he “regulated 7 industries and enforced state laws governing deceptive trade practices,” the White House said.
Campos holds both a B.A. and an M.S. from the University of Maryland, an M.B.A. from the University of Glasgow, Scotland and an Executive Business Program Certificate from Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
