A bridge to Trump: Democratic group tries to pressure Heller on Russia

SHARE

A Democratic group is starting a digital campaign to pressure Sen. Dean Heller to support probing President Trump's ties to Russia.

The onslaught by American Bridge, which already has done one web ad against the senior senator, is a five-figure, two-state campaign targeting Heller and Arizona's Jeff Flake, both of whom are up in 2018. In contrast to previous campaigns by advocacy groups targeting Cabinet nominees and Obamacare, this is the first one to focus on questions about the president and his praise for Vladimir Putin and his campaign's putative contacts with Russians.

The ads are simple and will link to a petition that says Heller is "turning a blind eye" and asks people to "tell him to put country ahead of politics."

Heller, the only Republican senator running in a state Trump lost, is widely considered the most vulnerable GOP senator up in 2018 and is pounded almost daily by advocacy groups.
