For three months, The Nevada Independent has kept you apprised of the latest COVID-19 data in Nevada through our “Coronavirus Contextualized” series.

Through that weekly feature, we’ve tracked how coronavirus cases have increased and decreased — and increased again. We’ve shown how certain rural portions of the state, including Lander and Humboldt counties, have been hit hard by COVID-19. We’ve tracked the state’s test positivity rate. We’ve kept you informed about the latest hospitalization numbers, even before those numbers were publicly available.

Today, we announce that we are bringing all of that data to you — and more — on a daily and, at times, hourly basis through our new and improved “Coronavirus in Nevada” data page released this morning.

On it, we will provide an at-a-glance view of the latest coronavirus numbers in Nevada, including how many new cases, deaths and recoveries have been reported each day on a statewide and per-county basis. We’ll keep you up-to-date on the latest numbers of confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients currently in the hospital. We’ll continue to offer a county-by-county map where you can explore which parts of the state have had the highest per capita cases of the novel coronavirus. We’ll take a look at which demographic groups — by age, gender and race or ethnicity — have been affected most by COVID-19. We’ll also offer some national comparisons that look at how Nevada stacks up against other states in terms of cases, deaths and people tested per capita.

We’ll be keeping the page updated with the latest data as soon as we have it, from the state’s early morning case updates to those released by counties each evening.

Our “Coronavirus Contextualized” series will also be moving from Wednesdays to Fridays, where it will serve as a weekly roundup of some of the most important trends we tracked on our “Coronavirus in Nevada” page throughout the week. Of course, if you don’t want to wait for the weekly roundup, you can check back on our “Coronavirus in Nevada” data page every day for the latest.

This page will continue to evolve as the pandemic continues. We’ll consider adding new features as we are able, and you can reach out to [email protected] with any feedback and suggestions. (You can also reach out — kindly! — with any errors you spy. We’re a small team, and we’re doing our very best to bring you all the information we can.)

Last but not least, this page would not have been possible without CJ Keeney, our chief technology officer, who helped streamline our data collection process and create the new infrastructure that powers this page.
