A host of prominent Democrats, elected officials and two members of the Laxalt family are holding a fundraiser for gubernatorial candidate Steve Sisolak later this month.

According to a copy of an invitation obtained by The Nevada Independent, the fundraiser for Sisolak will be hosted at the Reno home of prominent attorney Margo Piscevich on Sept. 26.

Notably, the guest list includes two cousins of Sisolak’s general election opponent Adam Laxalt — his cousins Dr. Kristin Laxalt and attorney Monique Laxalt. The two are daughters of the late Robert Laxalt, an acclaimed novelist and brother to former governor and U.S. Sen. Paul Laxalt.

Both Kristin Laxalt and Monique Laxalt have contributed to Democratic candidates in the past, according to state campaign finance records. Kristin Laxalt endorsed and gave $1,875 to Democratic attorney general candidate Ross Miller in his 2014 race against Adam Laxalt, and Monique Laxalt contributed to $1,500 to former Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chris Giunchigliani.

Others listed on the host list include former Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa, Regent Rick Trachok and longtime Reno attorney Don Nomura.

A notable inclusion on the host list is Bruce James, the former CEO of the United States Government Printing Office between 2002 and 2007 and a “Republican stalwart” who once considered a run against former Nevada Sen. Harry Reid.

In a statement, Sisolak campaign spokeswoman Christina Amestoy said the support of James — who has given more than $31,000 to primarily Republican candidates since 2010 — was evidence of the gubernatorial candidate’s ability to work across the aisle.

“Steve's known as a guy who brings people together and we're proud of the broad support we're receiving from across the state,” she said in an email.

The fundraiser will take place one week prior to a separate fundraising event for Sisolak hosted by brothel owner and Tahoe-Reno Industrial Center developer Lance Gilman and his business partner Don Roger Norman.

Disclosure: Lance Gilman, Steve Sisolak and Chris Giunchigliani have donated to The Nevada Independent. You can see a full list of donors here.
