Residents, staff in 20 assisted living, skilled nursing facilities in Nevada test positive for COVID-19

Residents or staff in 20 assisted living and skilled nursing facilities across Nevada have confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to a Division of Public and Behavioral report obtained by The Nevada Independent through a records request.
All three assisted living facilities with confirmed cases are in Clark County. They are Merrill Gardens of Green Valley Ranch, Prestige Senior Living at Mira Loma in Henderson and Silver Skye Deer Springs Assisted Living in northwest Las Vegas.
There are also 15 skilled nursing facilities in Southern Nevada with confirmed cases:
- Advanced Health Care of Summerlin
- Delmar Gardens in Henderson
- Harmon Hospital in Las Vegas
- Heights of Summerlin
- Horizon Health and Rehabilitation Center in Las Vegas
- Las Vegas Post Acute and Rehabilitation
- Life Care Center of Las Vegas
- North Las Vegas Care Center
- NeuroRestorative4kids in the Summerlin area
- Premier Health and Rehab in Las Vegas
- Silver Hills Health Care Center in northwest Las Vegas
- Silver Ridge Health Care Center
- Southern Nevada Veterans Home in Boulder City
- TLC Care Center in Las Vegas
- Transitional Care of Las Vegas
The remaining two skilled nursing facilities with cases are HearthStone of Northern Nevada in Sparks and Lakeside Health and Wellness in Reno.
The Division of Public and Behavioral Health said in its report that it was providing a list of facilities with confirmed COVID-19 cases "in order to promote safety and an abundance of prevention and control." However, the division said it would not provide individual case counts for residents or staff "as these numbers can change rapidly." The Nevada Independent has sent a follow up records request seeking that information.
The division said in the report that the Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance has developed guidance to help facilities implement social distancing, cleaning procedures and visitor restrictions, as well as surveyed facilities to assess infection control procedures and identify any gaps.
As soon as suspected cases are identified in each facility, the state Office of Public Health Investigations and Epidemiology begins to monitor symptomatic residents and staff, according to the report. The division said it continues to work with each facility with identified cases to implement "strong infection control procedures" including adding social distancing measures, separating symptomatic individuals from non-symptomatic ones, conducting environmental cleaning and testing those with high exposure to the suspected case.
