Statewide teachers' union attacks Sisolak, champions Giunchigliani in new ad
The Nevada State Education Association has come out swinging against Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Sisolak as the calendar inches closer to the June primary.
Strong Public Schools Nevada — a political action committee affiliated with the statewide teachers’ union — released a digital ad Friday that attacks Sisolak, while promoting his primary opponent, Chris Giunchigliani. The 30-second ad criticizes Sisolak for his history regarding guns, public lands and education.
“Don’t let the label fool you,” the narrator says. “With Steve Sisolak, read the fine print.”
The ad goes on to praise Giunchigliani — a former special-education teacher, whom NSEA has endorsed — by calling her a “progressive” who will fight for more school funding, expand background checks for firearm purchases and protect public lands.
The digital ad is part of a five-figure buy that’s targeting educators, women and others most likely to vote in the primary election, said Chris Daly, the deputy executive director of government relations for the union. The organization expects the Internet ad to generate one million impressions during the first week.
The Clark County Education Association, which is the local teachers’ union, has endorsed Sisolak for governor.
Sisolak and Giunchigliani, who both sit on the Clark County Commission, will face off in the primary election June 12.
