The Indy needs you!

We have come a long way since January 2017.
When we launched The Indy, we had high hopes, talented reporters and few donors. Now, as we approach our third anniversary, I couldn't be prouder of what our nonprofit has accomplished. We didn't need the recent Nevada press awards for validation. Our work speaks for itself, and our hard work has been rewarded with hundreds of donations from readers and members to supplement our generous corporate supporters and event sponsors.
But we are not there yet. And that's why we are trying to turbocharge our way along the path to sustainability with a membership drive designed to increase the number of recurring monthly donors. As I wrote in the first of several emails:
Journalism is vital to our democracy. And we believe it should be free and accessible to everyone. That's why we don't have a paywall on our site, charge a subscription fee or clutter our website and articles with ads that have nothing to do with our community.
We believe there is another way to fund quality journalism. We are doubling down on the idea that if we ask our readers to contribute what you think we're worth, we can build a sustainable business model for nonprofit journalism.
Our memberships now start at $1 so everyone can be a part of Team Indy -- and your donation to our 501c3 is tax deductible. But if you can give more, please do. $5 a month is good. $10 is better. $25 or $50 is better yet — and makes a huge difference when hundreds of readers are doing it.
I have never had more faith in a team and a vision. We will get there, but we need help.
If you appreciate what we are doing and rely on us for your news, please give here or send us a check. We have come a long way. Help us get to where we need to be.
We’re looking out for Nevada — and for you
At The Nevada Independent, we spend our days monitoring government meetings so the public knows what’s happening behind the scenes, holding powerful institutions accountable, and helping you understand the issues that affect you.
In this critical election year, that mission is especially important.
In 2026, we’re closely watching state races, policy changes, and public accountability — so our community has accurate, trusted information when it matters most.
We’ve set a goal to raise $48,000 by April 24. Every gift moves us closer.
Will you step up and help us serve our community?
