Vegas sheriff releasing hundreds of jail inmates after COVID-19 turns up in detention center

“The ability to reduce the jail population in these ways will assist the Sheriff in his responsibilities to the health and safety of the inmates,” Bell wrote. “At the same time, both the Sheriff and I recognize the priority of keeping our community safe and decisions about the release of inmates must take into consideration any potential risk of harm to the community.”

Clark County District Court suspends jury trials, in-person ‘non-essential’ court proceedings over coronavirus fears

The order, signed by Chief Judge Linda Bell and Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice Kristina Pickering, states that beginning Monday all scheduled “non-essential” court hearings will be conducted by video or telephone, decided on the papers or rescheduled unless otherwise directed by a judge. It is up for review at least every 30 days and will continue until rescinded by a subsequent order.
