Embattled Clark County School Trustee Kevin Child has spoken out about a proposed settlement for Deputy Superintendent Kim Wooden, who has accused him of workplace harassment.

Wooden filed a complaint with the Nevada Equal Rights Commission last summer against the school district for not keeping her work environment safe, knowledgeable sources told The Nevada Independent. The complaint stemmed from several interactions with Child that made Wooden feel uncomfortable and intimidated.

Child denied the allegations during a phone interview Wednesday and called the situation part of “shenanigans” coordinated by district administrators and fellow board members.

“I would take a lie-detector test,” he told The Nevada Independent. “This stinks to high heaven.”

Child said he’s considering filing a lawsuit against the school district over the matter, which The Las Vegas Review-Journal first reported Wednesday. The proposed settlement, which would allow Wooden to work from home and not interact with trustees, is on the board’s consent agenda for its Thursday meeting.

Board President Deanna Wright declined to comment on Child potentially filing a lawsuit against the school district.

Last week, Child filed for re-election in District D, which covers portions of south-central Las Vegas and North Las Vegas. Child said he’s not dropping out of the race.

“I’m not going to give up my seat,” he said. “I care about these kids. I care about what we do.”

The district’s possible settlement with Wooden is just the latest tension point between Child and district officials. Superintendent Pat Skorkowsky banned him from district property last fall after continued complaints about his behavior when visiting schools and interacting with employees.

Child, who’s in his first term on the school board, has been a vocal critic of Skorkowsky and the district’s financial situation.
