Environmental advocacy group launches 7-figure ad campaign attacking Laxalt
The political arm of the Nevada Conservation League is launching a $1.15 million ad campaign slamming Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt over his support for “polluter profits.”
The environmental advocacy organization’s PAC announced Tuesday that it was beginning the first salvos of a planned seven-figure ad buy against Laxalt, including an English-language ad airing in Reno and Las Vegas and a Spanish-language digital ad. Both of the ads accuse Laxalt, the state’s attorney general, of receiving support from “Big Oil.”
“Our attorney general should protect us from polluters,” the ad states. “Instead, Adam Laxalt attended a California retreat hosted by the oil billionaire Koch brothers. And Laxalt got millions in support from a group backed by Big Oil.”
Freedom Partners Action Fund, a Super PAC affiliated and funded by billionaire conservative donors Charles and David Koch, pledged to spend seven figures on ads boosting Laxalt after he announced his gubernatorial candidacy last year.
The group also announced Monday that it was endorsing Democratic gubernatorial candidate Steve Sisolak, citing his support for clean energy and outdoor recreation.
“As a county commissioner, Steve Sisolak has fought for national monuments like Gold Butte and Tule Springs and knows that outdoor recreation on our public lands is an economic driver,” NCV executive director Andy Maggi said in a statement. “And he’s worked to create jobs by expanding Nevada’s clean energy economy. We look forward to working with him on the campaign trail to ensure that our state is in good hands when it comes to protecting our conservation values.”
