Heller plans to make his Senate re-election campaign official on March 12

Sen. Dean Heller, the most vulnerable Republican incumbent in the country, appears to be giving re-election a shot: He’s filing for candidacy with the secretary of state’s office on March 12, according to an appointment schedule kept by the office.

The Republican senator is one of 17 people who have scheduled appointments to sign the necessary paperwork that establishes them as candidates in races at the local, state and federal level. The appointment schedule shows that Democratic Rep. Jacky Rosen, who will run against Heller in the Senate race if the senator defeats Danny Tarkanian, is filing her candidacy on March 5.

Danny Tarkanian, Heller’s opponent in the Republican primary, has not scheduled an appointment to file for candidacy. But candidates can file their paperwork without scheduling an appointment.

Others on the list include Republican Assemblymen Jim Wheeler and John Ellison, who will file for re-election in their respective districts on March 5, and Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, who will file for re-election the same day. Three days later, on March 5, John Anzalone, a Clark County School District principal who is running for Congress as a Democrat, will make his candidacy official.

The candidate filing period for non-judicial offices opens March 5 and will close March 16. The primary election follows on June 12.
