Heller receives endorsement of ClearPath Action Fund

A group focused on electing Republicans who support clean energy policies endorsed Sen. Dean Heller on Monday, promising “to make major investments to help” keep him in the Senate.
The group also announced its endorsement of Republican Florida Rep. Carlos Curbelo.
“Rep. Curbelo and Sen. Heller have really put their shoulders to the wheel for clean energy, for the good of their constituents and for the country,” ClearPath Action Fund Founder Jay Faison said in a release. “We need them on Capitol Hill and remain leading Republican voices in Congress for responsible ways to reduce carbon emissions, while strengthening our economy.”
Although the group did not say how much funding it would provide to Heller’s campaign, the announcement comes after the group pledged $1 million for Pennsylvania Republican Rep. Ryan Costello.
An inquiry to Heller’s office seeking comment was not returned.
Heller, who is considered one of the more endangered Republicans of the 2018 election cycle, is facing Danny Tarkanian in what could be a close GOP primary in June and any additional financial support could make a significant difference. He will likely face Rep. Jacky Rosen, who currently represents Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District, in the general election.
The group called Heller “an indisputable clean energy champion” and cited his introduction of a bipartisan bill streamlining the permitting process for clean energy projects on public lands.
Heller reintroduced the bill in 2017 and believes it would enable an all-encompassing policy on energy production.
“If we truly want to implement an ‘all-of-the-above’ approach, we have to let renewable energy companies compete on a level playing field,” he said in a release upon reintroducing the measure. "The common-sense approach we have laid out will result in more jobs, true progress toward American energy independence, and preservation of our natural wonders.”
The group also credits Heller, as “his crowning achievement” in clean energy, with helping pass a five-year extension of the renewable energy tax credit that was signed into law in 2015.
Other areas of praise included Heller’s support for energy storage legislation, including as a top GOP co-sponsor of two bipartisan bills authorizing investment tax credits for businesses and homes and coordinating research and development efforts at the Department of Energy.
