Progressive groups launch TV ad to boost challenger Langford in Clark County DA race

A progressive political action committee largely funded by outside money is going up with a television ad campaign designed to boost Clark County district attorney candidate Rob Langford's bid to upset incumbent Steve Wolfson.
The ad, which is jointly paid for by Peoples’ PAC and Nevada Law & Justice PAC, is a positive spot focusing on Langford’s background as a prosecutor and criminal defense attorney and promises he will “reform our criminal justice system” and treat people fairly “no matter wealth, race or connections.”
According to Federal Communications Commission documents, the total size of the television ad buy is around $150,000, and runs until the state’s June 12 primary election.
It’s the latest attempt by well-funded outside progressive groups to boost Langford over Wolfson, who has significantly outraised his primary opponent and run his own robust television and advertising campaign.
The Nevada Law & Justice PAC, which has run ads attacking Wolfson’s record as the county’s top prosecutor, has not reported any contributors on its most recent campaign finance report but reported spending more than $118,000. Peoples’ PAC raised more than $386,000 over the first months of 2018, including $35,000 from the Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada’s Action Fund and more than $351,000 from Accountable Justice Action Fund — a 501(c)(4) nonprofit funded by the Open Philanthropy Project and focused on criminal justice reform.
Both Langford and Wolfson are Democrats, and because no Republicans filed to run for the office, the winner of the primary election will be the county’s next district attorney.
