U.S. Senate candidate and Rep. Jacky Rosen reiterated her opposition to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh as senators prepared to take a procedural vote to advance the nomination Friday morning, saying that she would vote against his confirmation if she were serving in the Senate today.

Rosen, in a statement to The Nevada Independent, expressed concerns about Kavanaugh’s record on women’s reproductive rights, the Affordable Care Act, consumer protections, campaign finance reform and civil rights. She added that his behavior during a hearing last week over allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, at a party in high school was not befitting a Supreme Court justice.

“Judge Kavanaugh’s disturbing partisan tirade in front of the Judiciary Committee while responding to credible allegations of sexual assault further demonstrated that he lacks the impartiality, the integrity, and the judicial temperament to sit on the Supreme Court,” Rosen said. “For all of these reasons, I could not support Judge Kavanaugh and would vote against confirming him to the Supreme Court if I were serving in the Senate.”

Shortly after Rosen released the statement, senators met the required 50-vote threshold needed to advance Kavanaugh’s confirmation. The final vote is expected to take place over the weekend. Rosen's opponent, U.S. Sen. Dean Heller, voted in favor of moving the nomination forward.

Heller "just voted to move forward with his confirmation to a lifetime appointment on the Supreme Court. Nevadans deserve better," Rosen tweeted immediately after the vote.

Rosen signed onto a letter earlier this week with 89 other members of Congress urging senators to oppose Kavanaugh’s nomination on the basis of his positions on women’s reproductive rights and concerns over his attitudes toward women, as demonstrated by allegations of sexual assault by Ford and others that have surfaced over the last few weeks.

“Given the President’s litmus test, and Judge Kavanaugh’s well-documented record restricting reproductive health, it is clear that a vote for Judge Kavanaugh is a vote against women’s autonomy and reproductive health,” the letter stated. “We therefore strongly oppose any vote confirming Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.”

Rosen has also sharply criticized Heller on the campaign trail for saying that he has “no reservations in confidently supporting Judge Kavanaugh’s confirmation” and that the allegations that surfaced against the nominee had created a “hiccup” in the confirmation process.
