Sisolak ad tries to paint him as tax-cutter amid Republican attacks

Focus: Steve Sisolak, Democratic candidate for governor
Who's paying for it: Sisolak's campaign

The gist: The 15-second spot asserts that Republican gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt is "lying about taxes" — an apparent reference to when Laxalt has suggested that Sisolak would raise property taxes. It shifts to Sisolak, who says the truth is that he voted against taxes and fees, cut his own salary and cut government positions. He also says that property taxes are lower than when he took office.
Sisolak has said "everything is on the table" when asked whether he would commit not to raise taxes as governor and was seen telling supporters in May that "one of the ways that we're going to have to pay for it … is property taxes." He has both cut and raised taxes and fees during his time on the Clark County Commission. He opposed a fuel tax increase in 2013 and the More Cops tax until 2016. Among the recent tax increases he supported was a hike in the hotel tax to fund the Raiders stadium and an expansion of the Las Vegas Convention Center.
