Democratic state Sen. Pat Spearman took her congressional campaign to online audiences Tuesday, releasing her first digital advertisement that highlights her lifelong fight for equality.

The 30-second spot traces Spearman’s journey overcoming discrimination as an African-American child when her school integrated, harassment from a superior who stalked her in the military and rejection from loved ones when she came out as a gay woman.

“She’s faced every type of discrimination and harassment,” the narrator says. “That’s why she has fought for equality her whole life. To take on Trump and the bigotry he’s released, send Pat Spearman to Congress.”

The ad debuts three weeks before the June 12 primary election, where she’ll face off against former Rep. Steven Horsford, progressive health-care advocate Amy Vilela, high school principal John Anzalone and Nevada System of Higher Education Regent Allison Stephens to represent the 4th Congressional District. That district covers a slice of North Las Vegas as well as the southern part of Lyon County and all of Esmeralda, Lincoln, Mineral, Nye and White Pine counties.

Spearman retired from the U.S. Army after serving 29 years. She worked as a pastor before being elected to the state Senate.

Earlier this month, a political action committee tied to the Culinary Union launched two television commercials backing Horsford in the crowded primary race. Spearman’s ad also comes the same day former Vice President Joe Biden announced his endorsement of Horsford.

Spearman's campaign manager didn't immediately know the cost of the ad buy but said the team hopes to put it on television at some point, too.
