In a major legal test of a landmark 2019 law that allowed state workers to unionize, a Carson City judge ruled against Nevada's largest state worker union Thursday, preserving a veto from Gov. Joe Lombardo that scuttled a $25 million appropriation funding a now-2-year-old state worker arbitration agreement.

"It's not that it's easy to just show up five days later and try to do legislative business and take care of a baby," Cannizzaro said. "But it's a choice that I feel really lucky to get to make."

Cole had been due in June, but arrived several weeks early. Aides say he is expected to make an appearance on the floor of the Senate in the near future and accompany his mom for legislative business.
