The gist: Dr. Kevin Marie Laxalt, the daughter of the late Nevada Sen. Paul Laxalt and aunt of current gubernatorial candidate Adam Laxalt, made her support of Sisolak official in a video released by the campaign on Wednesday. In the video, the Great Basin College professor said that Sisolak would continue to improve upon incumbent Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval’s accomplishments in K-12 education.
“I think we need a public servant who has lived, breathed and knows Nevada,” she says in the video. “Steve Sisolak is that person.”
Kevin Laxalt was one of six family members to write a letter to the Las Vegas Sun in 2014 supporting Adam Laxalt’s former opponent Ross Miller in the race for attorney general. Two of Laxalt’s cousins — Dr. Kristin Laxalt and attorney Monique Laxalt — hosted a fundraiser for Sisolak in Reno last month, and claimed in prepared remarks that Adam Laxalt “capitalize(d) on our family name” to get elected in the state.
