Clark County teachers’ union releases new ads hitting Laxalt on Education

Focus: Republican gubernatorial candidate and Attorney General Adam Laxalt
Who’s paying for it: Nevada Leads, the PAC for the Clark County Education Association
Size of Buy: Six-figures
Where’s it running: Statewide
When it starts: Monday, Oct. 15
The gist: The first of two ads links Laxalt to independent candidate for Governor Ryan Bundy, son of controversial Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, while a narrator says, “we’ll let others argue whether Bundy or Laxalt is the true conservative.” The ad then switches to a testimonial from a teacher in favor of Laxalt’s Democratic opponent Steve Sisolak, who says “it’s clear that he supports us.”
The second ad attacks Laxalt’s plan to repeal the Commerce Tax, a 2015 tax increase spearheaded by sitting Gov. Brian Sandoval that, in part, funded increased education funding. Sandoval later said he could not “support a candidate that seeks to undo” his accomplishments, and while the governor has endorsed Republican Sen. Dean Heller, he has since declined to endorse anyone in the governor’s race.
