Former television news reporter Michelle Mortensen has raised slightly more than $81,000 since she jumped into the crowded Republican primary in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District in early November, according to an early copy of her campaign finance report obtained by The Nevada Independent.

Mortensen, who worked in television for 18 years, reported receiving donations from several high profile Las Vegas business and casino owners over the past two months, including $5,400 each from Steve and Andrea Wynn, and two separate $5,000 checks from Treasure Island and its owner, Phil Ruffin.

She also received several contributions from notable Republican donors, including $2,700 from businessman Richard Collins, $5,400 from venture capitalist Elliott Broidy and $5,400 from San Francisco socialite Dede Wilsey. Mortensen spent slightly more than $2,700 and had $78,362 in available cash at the end of the year.

Mortensen is running against former Assemblywoman Victoria Seaman, state Sen. Scott Hammond and former Clark County Republican Party chair Dave McKeon in the crowded primary for the state’s 3rd Congressional District. Democrat Susie Lee is also running in the district, in which Democrats have a narrow 7,000-person voter registration advantage over Republicans.

During the last round of reported campaign fundraising between July and September, Seaman led the pack, raising $64,000 and loaning herself another $50,000. Hammond reported raising $51,700 and McKeon brought in $39,695 over that fundraising cycle, while Lee reported raising $315,178.

Democrat Jacky Rosen, a former synagogue leader who also worked in computer science, is vacating the 3rd District seat to run for Republican Sen. Dean Heller’s Senate seat in 2018. She beat Republican businessman Danny Tarkanian for the seat by about 1.3 percentage points in 2016.

Nevada’s primary election is scheduled for June 12.
