As education takes center stage in the governor’s race, Democratic candidate Chris Giunchigliani’s first television ad promotes her teaching background.

Giunchigliani’s 30-second television ad launches Monday in the Reno and Las Vegas markets, making her the fourth gubernatorial candidate to bring her campaign to television airwaves.

The ad shows Giunchigliani, a former special-education teacher, in a classroom, surrounded by children. During the narration, Giunchigliani notes that she has taught lessons “all over Nevada” and, as a state lawmaker, helped pass universal kindergarten and funding to build dozens of new schools.

Then the gubernatorial hopeful pivots to what she would do in Nevada’s top elected office.

“As a progressive governor, I’ll fix the school funding formula, reduce class sizes and increase teachers’ salaries because it all starts here,” she says in the ad, which is part of a six-figure buy.

Giunchigliani is running against her Clark County Commission colleague, Steve Sisolak, in the primary election June 12.

Last week, the Nevada State Education Association, which has endorsed Giunchigliani, released a digital ad attacking Sisolak. But Sisolak has the backing of the Clark County Education Association, which is the local teachers’ union.

Disclosure: Steve Sisolak and Chris Giunchigliani have donated to The Nevada Independent. You can see a full list of donors here.
