Democrat Kate Marshall, who is running for lieutenant governor, has become the second Nevada candidate to receive an EMILY’s List endorsement this year.

EMILY’s List, a political action committee dedicated to electing female candidates who are pro-choice Democrats, announced Thursday that it was endorsing Marshall. The organization noted that Marshall — a former state treasurer who now runs her own legal consulting business in Reno — has a track record of responsibly managing taxpayers’ dollars.

“Kate Marshall has always focused on helping hardworking Nevada families where it matters: the pocketbook. As Nevada’s senior deputy attorney general, she prosecuted white-collar crime and held big corporations accountable to protect jobs in the state,” Stephanie Schriock, president of EMILY’s List, said in a statement. “As state treasurer, she saved Nevada taxpayers millions of dollars and successfully managed the state’s investments during the economic downturn. And as a breast cancer survivor, Kate is committed to making sure every Nevada family has access to affordable, quality health care."

Marshall said she’s honored to be endorsed by an organization that works to elect more female candidates.

“All over the country and here in Nevada, women are standing up and running for office. From the courthouse to the halls of Congress, women are making a difference,” she said in a statement. "That’s why I’m so honored to be endorsed by EMILY’s List. At a time when women are drastically under-represented in government, EMILY’s List is working to change that.”

Gubernatorial candidate Chris Giunchigliani snagged an EMILY’s List endorsement in late January. And last summer, the organization endorsed Rep. Jacky Rosen for her Senate bid as well.
