Why the Nevada Democracy Project matters
As part of the Nevada Democracy Project, Vegas PBS and The Nevada Independent will team up for regular community listening sessions and from those conversations will seek to understand community needs and provide in-depth news coverage on the channels of both organizations.

The Nevada Independent and Gigafact team up to correct misinformation online
One of the questions I am most frequently asked by Indy readers and concerned citizens is how newsrooms can more effectively correct misinformation when and where it appears. From Politifact to FactCheck.org to our own Honest Abe rating scale (fun while it lasted but no longer in service), the aim to shine truth on false claims is not new — and not easy in the din of today's noisy political battlefields, which frequently are littered with half-truths, lies and propaganda.

Sisolak, Lombardo to participate in gubernatorial race town hall at IndyFest
I am pleased to announce that Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak and Republican Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo have agreed to participate in a 90-minute gubernatorial race town hall at IndyFest, The Nevada Independent's annual conference centered on policy and politics. It will be moderated by our founder and CEO, Jon Ralston.

Civility matters
It is appalling that someone would come to an event expressly centered on, and billed as, a respectful conversation about public policy and pull such a nasty stunt — one obviously designed to get maximum attention on social media — but these are apparently the times we live in. (If you missed it, a similar (but worse) incident involving Gov. Sisolak and his wife occurred quite recently.)

A word on our 2022 election coverage
Welcome to my first blog post as editor of The Indy — if you missed it, Jon is now CEO, among other changes — and thanks for clicking. Whether you're a political junkie who avidly follows campaigns and elections, a moderately savvy voter who wants to be informed on the races and issues that matter most to you, or a politically unengaged Nevadan who still wants to figure out what to do come voting time, we are here to help.
