Republican congressional hopefuls are pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars of their own money into beating Democrats who have won year after year.

A new analysis shows that many candidates running in Nevada’s federal races received more than $10.1 million in federal government loans from 2007 to 2021.

The only incumbent to be outraised by an opponent was Rep. Dina Titus, (D-NV) who saw a Republican opponent, Flemming Larsen, loan his campaign $200,000 of his own funds in the third quarter. Titus reported raising just over $122,000 in the quarter.

The battle for control of the U.S. House of Representatives will again run through Las Vegas, where three of the state’s four congressional districts were decided by less than 6 points in 2022.

Across the state’s four congressional districts, Reps. Susie Lee (D-NV) and Steven Horsford (D-NV) led the way in fundraising, bringing in nearly $583,000 and $668,000, respectively.

After friends encouraged him to run in the 2022 election, he decided it was a way he could expand his commitment to community service. Carter said he will bring a sense of empathy, an ability to connect with people and trustworthiness to the Legislature. 

As the results for the midterm election pour in, Democrats appear to be maintaining control of the Legislature, but they will likely fall short of hoped-for supermajorities in either house.
