Nevada lawmakers authorized medical marijuana dispensaries in 2013 through a deal that also put strict limitations on home growing, which patients such as Jordon Herring say contributes to a legal cannabis framework with major shortcomings, including high prices, contaminated products and a lack of medicinal resources.

Top-ranking Nevada lawmakers from both sides of the aisle shared a stage in Reno on Tuesday to answer pressing policy questions at IndyTalks, a forum hosted by The Nevada Independent.

But in spite of leaders’ disagreements, they each emphasized the open lines of communication between them, including weekly meetings and discussions during committee hearings. 

After Nevada recently raised the minimum age for buying tobacco from 18 to 21, lawmakers may also stiffen penalties for those who sell the products to minors.
